Troubleshoot a camera that is not sending captures
Troubleshoot Hikvision ANPR camera captures by checking DNS, HTTPS, camera Test events, heartbeats, access logs, direction and images.
Change one thing at a time and prove each layer before moving deeper into the system.
1. Check camera health
If Last seen is updating every minute, the GPS / Positioning heartbeat proves the camera can reach Ruby ANPR. If it is Offline, start with network, DNS, SSL and Alarm Server settings.
2. Use the Hikvision Test button
A synthetic 1111111 capture proves the full HTTPS ingest path and image handling. If Test works but real vehicles do not, focus on the camera's ANPR detection, arming schedule, linkage and physical view.
3. Check a known real vehicle pass
Do not infer capture behaviour from heartbeat traffic. Confirm a vehicle definitely passed the detection zone, then refresh the dashboard and inspect the server access log.
4. If the plate is not read
Check the physical zoom, angle, focus, exposure and plate size in the detection zone. Ruby ANPR can only display the metadata the camera actually recognises.
5. If images are missing
Confirm PHP Fileinfo is available and the capture storage directory is writable. Compatible Hikvision vehicle events commonly provide plate, vehicle and detection images.
